Fabric Covered Buttons
So for the past couple of weeks my kids and I have been feeling a little under the weather. This means that instead of having a couple of hours to myself for sewing and such, I have only had a few minutes here, a few minutes there.
This week those minutes produced a happy batch of fabric covered buttons that I made into hair pins, hair elastics, and headbands.
Fabric covered buttons are super great for a number of reasons: the materials are inexpensive, the finished product is very versatile, and young children can make them with you. I buy my button materials from coverbuttons.com, where they have a video right on their home page that tells you how to make a covered button in a jiffy. For fabric, I use only small scraps from quilts and clothing that I have collect in large bins as I sew. Having button materials, hair elastics and hair pins on hand make it easy to whip these up in a few minutes.
Here are a random handful chosen by my five year old daughter:

And here are a collection of little cuties that I packed in tiny cellophane bag with brightly colored cardstock. Perfect for gifting or selling to girls of all ages.
